Artist Series: Anita Inverarity

In the first of an ongoing series, we present Anita Inverarity, artist and illustrator who we commissioned for two of our best selling art cards.

Anita is a full-time artist from Aberdeen, Scotland.  She completed a qualification in Graphic Design and Illustration in the mid-80’s and describes her artistic journey “as coming home” after several careers, when in 2011 she returned to her artistic roots full-time. Since then, she has enjoyed representation with several galleries and regular exhibits, including a visual artist award for her piece, “Whisper of the Sith” in 2012.

Anita describes her work as borrowing from the ancient, the arcane, and the esoteric, in a subtle way. She weaves intricate patterns and lines with her pens, exploring the beauty and nature with a “universal folk twist”.

“I like the idea of creating otherworldly scenarios which are inhabited by romantic maidens and their creature friends. Influences include world myths and legends, folk tales, fairy tale, wildlife, and nature”.

Mythril Made commissioned the following two pieces from Anita and we approach these card with care and precision, using decades of experience and skill with art, printing, and the technologies available to us now and from centuries ago, to create each individual card.

Rashiecoats

This art piece is based on Rashiecoats, a Scottish retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale, about a princess forced to marry a prince much to her disliking, but cleverly finds a way to marry her cherished prince instead.  This card was hand-printed on a 1922 Chandler and Price letterpress by a true master printer. Printed on cotton cotton-mix paper with plant-based inks.

Cat Sookins

Our Cat Sookins card was one of our more challenging letterpress cards to print due to the two color set up and very fine lines requiring a level of precision not often seen in letterpress printing. This card was hand-printed on a 1922 Chandler and Price letterpress by a true master printer. Printed on cotton cotton-mix paper with plant-based inks.
